Stone Hot Process Soap

So, I have seen some GORGEOUS photos of “stone” soaps and just had to try it. I also thought hot process soaps tendencies would lend well to the look of stone. Plus, I wanted to try hot process again! I liked the results the first time I tried.

I decided to go with Turquoise, Lapis Lazuli and Onyx. The Turquoise is scented with Brambleberry’s Ginger and Dogwood Bloom. The Lapis Lazuli is Brambleberry’s Meyer Lemon and the Onyx is Brambleberry’s Sensuous Sandalwood and some Nature’s Oil Cinnamon as well. I mostly used mica powder from Workshop Heritage on Etsy. My Recipe usually uses Beef Tallow, but since I had some Palm Oil to use up and was out of Beef Tallow, I used Palm oil in this recipe, a rarity for me. I don’t want to use palm oil in the future unless its a ecological choice.

Making soap with the Hot Process method is quite different. Theres no waiting for the lye and water to cool. Then, you have to do quite a bit of physical mixing as the immersion blender can’t quite handle the thickness. Then, there’s STAGES to go through, like when the mixture looks like applesauce, like its broken. I freaked out the first time i saw it, but it passes. It becomes cohesive again and like mashed potatoes. Lastly, it gets a shiny glaze to it. Thats when its done. I add the fragrance just around when i start seeing the shine.

For the colors, I made sure to prep every in plastic pitchers beforehand, with a plan for each stone and the scents mixed in. This was crucial.

I divided the batter into 6 pitchers and a few paper cups which had some of the accent colors, like gold. As the batter was very thick, there was no swirling or anything like that. I just plopped it in later by layer. I decorated the tops and let them sit the rest of the day and overnight. The next am, i put them in the freezer for two hours to harden a bit more. It worked, though, I did notice some water droplets trapped in the soap when cutting, which I don’t really know how they got there. However, they just evaporated like they were never there!

Here is the result. What do you think? I loved these, everything about them. I have been perusing online for more types to make already! I was thinking Rose Quartz, a white Variety and maybe something Yellow like Tigers eye. What do you think? Please comment below! Want one of my soaps?
