The Story Behind Our Aurora Borealis Soap

Why we named it “Aurora Borealis.”

In Norse mythology, it was associated with the ‘Bifrost Bridge’, a burning rainbow bridge which joined ‘Midgard’ (Earth) to ‘Asgard’ (the realm of the gods) – a gateway between Earth and heaven. We used the scraps of vividly colored recently made soaps against the black and purple activated charcoal and ethically sourced mica.

The Aurora Borealis, the inspiration for our up-cycled soap

Every once in awhile, I get a big surprise in running my soap business. The story of this soap is one of them. You see, we actually bevel our soaps and trim the ends of the loaves of soap to make it less sharp feeling in the hand- and so that everybody gets a neat center cut.

Some soap scraps created by peeling Malachite Shampoo Bars in Tea Tree and Rosemary Oil for Thinning Hair available here; https://www.birdsofvalhalla.com/products/shampoo-bars?utm_medium=product-links&utm_content=ios&utm_source=copyToPasteboard

I price these soaps cheaper than pretty much any other soap in my shop, even though the quality of the soap is the same quality as all my other soaps. I figure people will want to pay less for the scrappy looking soap. And it’s absolutely flies off the shelf.!

I made a short video and posted it on tiktok about an interaction I had with a new staff- dramatized, if course, which garnered a lot of support from the reuse-recycle crowd! Our Tiktok video on Aurora Borealis Soap by Birdsofvalhalla

If you hung on this long, I am so glad, because now I am going to tell you about my favorite part… the fragrance! It is my favored, after all! Remember, my background is as a chef and I have smelled over a thousand fragrance oils over the last few years so, this is saying a lot!

Aurora Borealis Soap with Anarchy Fragrance Oil, by Nurture Soap made by Debra Glaze of Birds of Valhalla on Tiktok; https://www.tiktok.com/@birdsofvalhalla?_t=8UJQynVo0C3&_r=1

The makers of this fragrance, Nurture Soap, describe it like this; https://nurturesoap.com/products/anarchy-fragrance-oil

“Sweet and spicy, Anarchy fragrance oil has three main elements: Patchouli, vanilla, and black pepper. The main note of patchouli is sweetened by the underlying notes of vanilla. The black pepper gives this fragrance a slight peppery kick. Compare to Lush® brand Lord of Misrule™.”

To me, it does not smell like patchouli, which- is no secret to anyone that knows me- is my LEAST favorite smell. This- it is ethereal, soft, musky, peppery and spicy, yet smooth and lingering.

The activated charcoal seals the deal with it’s deep cleansing properties. You can research more on that here and on google; https://bebodywise.com/blog/charcoal-soap-benefits/

This soap, which I assumed would be the least popular- is one of our most. I made 100 bars at least once a month and sell every bar. With our new lightning fast, centrally located shipping fulfillment service, it ships same business day, too. The bars are oversized as well- and if you know my products, you know they outlast my competitors in almost all cases.

I would love to hear more back about this soap and if you have tried it! Do you like the fragrance? What do you think of the purple and black- is it better than the black? Do you have any suggestions for more styles and fragrances for scrap soap? Please let me know in the comments if you have ideas!
